About This Place

First started in late 2007, Kasey's Mobile Game Review (then just a regular feature of Kasey's Korner) started as a simul-post between here and IGN. Later I realized there's no reason to post it twice, when I can use the traffic on my own site. so, here we are, in 2010, and the mobile game industry has grown a bit. What do you think?

KMGR "South Park: Mega-Millionaire"

South ParkImage via Wikipedia

The South Park gang is here for a game... That makes fun of Japanese game shows, general American culture, and just about everything else they can, including offending a lot of people! The problem is the gameplay is unforgiving, and thus frustrating, and even the presence of "achievements" doesn't really help the game that much. If you dig that type of humor, AND have the reflexes of a cheetah, give it a try.

The premise of the game is simple... The four main kids from South Park are invited to compete on a game show called Mega Millionaire... A very Japanese style game show where physical challenges are the usual... There's a "meta-gameboard" where you move from square to square, finding out what challenge you have to master.

Every once in a while you get a 'special challenge' by spinning a wheel, which gives you either a bonus, or more likely a handicap of some sort... Such as... greasy floors!

Once you're in the challenge, you then do the "Mario thing". On the actual challenge level, you need to wear roller skates, jump and hop your way to the "goal"... don't fall into the liquid traps or you'll get a "wet failure!" (among other things). The control schemes is strange. Left and right to accelerate in the respective direction, up to jump, and DOWN to brake. Not easy at all. One small miss, and you need to start over.

The dialog is fine, very South Park-y, and you get it both before and after the challenge, but the gag about Kartman being "fat" gets old quickly. All the graphics are fine, and very readable.

All in all, South Park : Mega Millionaire is more of a satire than a game, though it's not that bad of a game if you enjoy precision button pushing-type games.

Overall rating: 6.5 out of 10
Pros: familiar gang, running parody / satire, nice and clean graphics
Cons: nothing too new here, some gags get old fast, action not for everybody
Verdict: worth a few levels, but I don't know if you'd really want to finish the WHOLE game
